Three for three

James Shearing, Manager of Broking, Wellington takes the title of ‘Broking Professional of the year’.

The 2014 New Zealand Insurance Industry Awards were held Thursday evening in the New Zealand Ballroom, SkyCity.

The evening unites all sectors of the insurance industry to publicly celebrate the highest standards of excellence, professionalism and performance of individuals and organisations.

This year we are very proud of James Shearing winner of Broking Professional of the Year.  The award recognises excellence in insurance broking and is awarded to an experienced professional who has consistently demonstrated and proven measurable achievements in his career.

This year has been quite a success for James Shearing, who earlier in the year was offered the role of Manager of Broking, where he is responsible for the results, progression and well-being of 25 staff in the Wellington branch.  He has again achieved outstanding sales results and as one of our very best Business Performers has been invited to Crombie Lockwood’s high sales achievers celebration ‘The Academy’ and has now won Broking Professional of the Year.

This year’s successes are evidence of his cumulative achievements of years gone by.

James’ insurance career began in 1996 in London as an underwriter before moving into broking in 2005.  He was invited to attend a residential course in Germany, revolutionised the compilation of quarterly reinsurance reports, was on the Y2K steering committee and earned his CII diploma.

His career then took him to Aussie where he worked as a customer service representative while playing semi-professional rugby.  James developed a desktop rating tool for a scheme which sped up the process and improved accuracy.

In 2006 he moved across the ditch to Blenheim and later onto Wellington working for ACM Ahlers as Location Manager.  When Crombie Lockwood purchased ACM Ahlers James became Group Broking Manager/ANZ Bank managing a team of seven.  James gained his Senior Associate ANZIFF, achieved several significant claims settlements, won ACM Top Broker and ACM Top Location for eight quarters in a row, and Crombie Lockwood’s Academy in 2012 and 2013.  James also oversaw a significant growth of revenue and exceeding budgets in a falling market by +20%

In last night’s acclamation James was noted for his integrity, his ability to achieve fair and balanced outcomes for all concerned, his professional approach, win-win outcomes in difficult claims situations, energy and commitment to putting customer’s interests first, and was described as setting the highest standards of professional performance.

James joins our other two major award winners of the year – Martin Lines was named IBANZ Broker of the Year and Brendan Main was awarded Manager of the Year in the Manawatu Contact Centre Awards. Congratulations James – you’ve given us the perfect three out of three award result.
